Transgender vs transvestite
Transgender is an umbrella term which includes anybody that self identifies outside the relm of being either male identifying as a man, or female identifying as a woman. It includes transsexuals (born one sex but identify as the opposite assigned gender) drag queens/kings, bi-gendered, androgynous (identifying as man and woman combined), gender queer/third gender (identify as neither man nor woman). There are probably some other identities that are covered under transgender. I feel like intersexed might also fit under there as well.
Transvestite is no longer used mostly, but people tend to the term Cross Dresser (CD). It's somebody who enjoys wearing clothing of the opposite gender. Example: somebody that identifies as a man, and wears skirts.
